Pune, the second largest city in terms of population among the 10 selected from the state of Maharashtra, is not wanting to leave any stone unturned in its effort for preparing a Smart City plan.
The Pune with a population of 3.1 million, second to Greater Mumbai (12.40 million) in the list of 10 selected cities from Maharashtra – is trying every single trick in the book to get maximum ideas, feedback, suggestions and views of its citizens.
Right from door-to-door form filling, to online suggestions, non-government organisations – experts architects and lay people like auto rickshaw drivers are all involved in this mass movement for preparing smart city proposal.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has reportedly collected over 125,000 suggestion forms in physical format from families in a week's time. Additionally over 12,000 forms were filled online as of 18 September, 2015.
The forms primarily constituted two questions – what should be the vision for Pune? And 3 big issues you currently face in the city?
Last Monday, the civic administration made detailed presentation on the objectives of smart city plan to several organisations, including the Confederation of Real Estate Developers' Association of India (Credai), Hamal Panchayat and Indian Institute of Architects and made an appeal to them to participate in the civic body's efforts.
Deputy Commissioner of PMC Ani Pawar was quoted by a newspaper saying that "We are trying to reach out to the citizens via different platforms for their suggestions on various issues. They can also register their comments on www.punesmartcity.in."
Credai reportedly has assured to assist PMC in the environment sector, while the Indian Institute of Architect would help in drafting a plan on water supply and sewage treatment.
Additionally, representatives of autorickshaw organisations said their 45,000 members would help the civic body reach out to maximum people.
