MEDIA RELEASE: Peak smart cities body partners with leading global design, technology and management company

Submitted by Adam Beck on January 17, 2018

Smart Cities Council Australia New Zealand (SCCANZ) announced today its latest industry partnership, with Cyient, a global provider of engineering, manufacturing, geospatial, network and operations management solutions.

Council Associate Partner Cyient has been making an impact around the world for more than 25 years, through its 14,000 employees who leading the development and delivery of technology and data solutions in markets as diverse as telecommunications, rail, utilities, geospatial and aerospace.

Steven Fisher, General Manager for Sales in Australia and New Zealand, said that “to us, problems are an opportunity to use our extensive global experience and industry knowledge creatively to help our clients do more, helping them become more capable, more flexible, and more competitive in the innovation economy.”

“Cyient is working in some of the largest smart cities markets, and we are excited to work with them in the ANZ region to bring that experience into play here with government and other major stakeholders developing smart cities projects,” Beck says. He continued by saying “it is also good news for other partners in the region, who can take advantage and leverage Cyient’s domain expertise in data governance and management, IoT, advanced analytics and geospatial capabilities with their own local expertise.”

“An example of this approach is our announcement earlier in the year with Japan’s leading IoT platform provider, Kii, who are working with us to bring industry and government together to accelerate smart cities projects across the world”, Fisher said.

Beck believes the role of geospatial applications is going to become a key tool for delivering and managing successful smart cities projects in Australia as we look to replicate and scale solutions. “Cyient’s vendor agnostic business model allows them to utilise technologies from leading geospatial vendors such as Autodesk, Bentley, Esri, GE, Hexagon and others for building 3D city models and applying intelligence to planning and designing of critical infrastructure. Their Smart City Platform integrates 3D geospatial data with the various city centric domains such as asset management, disaster management, traffic management, street lighting, communications, etc. As such, Cyient is primed to support the regional market place in the development of smart cities,” says Beck.

“Another exciting element of our partnership with Cyient is their commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR),” Beck explained. Cyient’s brand promise of Designing Tomorrow Together extends to their allocation of 2% of yearly profits as their annual budget for CSR activities such as education of vulnerable communities, sanitation, digital literacy and disaster relief.
