"When I talk to people about smart cities, it’s pretty easy for them to understand how smart sensors on roadways can help ease traffic congestion. Or how smart electric meters can help consumers be more energy efficient. But they have some trouble making the connection between smart cities and smart payment systems. That is, until I mention real-world examples of how cities that have digitized their payments systems are reducing costs at the same time they’re offering citizens more benefits, more convenience and more inclusion."
