Companies looking to supply smart cities with products or services have plenty of opportunities available across the country. As more government agencies begin investing in the smart cities movement, companies in the business-to-government (B2G) marketplace have the chance to take advantage.

Here are 10 smart city projects from the past month that were awarded to a vendor, recently put out to bid or included in an agency’s future spending plan:

Sediment Removal and Maintenance – City of Oklahoma City, OK
Oklahoma City has awarded a contract worth an estimated $1.5M to C-P Integrated Services to provide dredging and maintenance services along the landscaped area known as the Oklahoma River.

Surveying and GIS Services – City of Casselberry, FL
Casselberry has awarded a contract worth $200K to DRMP, Inc. for providing continuing professional services for surveying, Geographic Information (GIS), and infrastructure asset management.

Currently Open Bids and RFPs
Bids and RFPs are the bread and butter of government contracting. These smart city projects are a few examples of the kinds of contracts agencies have recently put out to bid.

Technology Consulting – City of Washington, DC.
The nation’s capital seeks vendors to support the technology needs of preparatory schools in the city with a focus on installation, maintenance, repair, and professional development.

Transit Facility Improvement Project – City of Blacksburg, VA
Blacksburg plans on investing money to improve one of its major transit facilities. The selected vendor will help optimize the space within and help improve the facility’s overall usefulness. 

Data Center Relocation – City of Memphis, TN
Memphis will be providing funds in the upcoming months to relocate an existing data center from its City Hall to the Central Library, which is a more efficient facility.

Comm Room Upgrade and Expansion – City of New York, NY
New York is preparing to release an RFP that will provide an expansion and overall upgrade to the communications room on behalf of MTA New York City Transit.

Future Leads in Budgets and Spending Plans
Companies interested in selling smart products or services can get the most foresight by finding potential projects within agency budgets and capital spending plans. Dash Facility and Fleet Expansion – City of Alexandria, VA

Dublin has allocated $1M to find a facility to seed and grow smart city technology initiatives, including smart parking, IoT, AI, broadband, big data analytics, and cybersecurity.

Public Internet Technology – City of Tempe, AZ
Tempe is budgeting $675K through 2022 for enhancing the city’s free public internet services through public computers and wireless access for citizens visiting public facilities.
