Here are 10 smart city projects from the past month that were awarded to a vendor, recently put out to bid or included in an agency’s future spending plan:

Street and Utility Improvements – City of Tulare, CA
Tulare has authorized the award of a $6.4M contract with Don Berry Construction, Inc. to provide street and utility improvement services for a main city thoroughfare.
Park Construction – City of Bellingham, WA
Bellingham has given awards valued at $6.2M to multiple contractors for park renovation work, including construction, prefabricated structures, lighting, trails, bike infrastructure, and more.
Computer Software Training – City of Chicago, IL
Chicago is awarding a contract worth more than $2.2M to Directions Training Center for a computer software training services project spanning a minimum of five years.
Currently Open Bids and RFPs
Bids and RFPs are the bread and butter of government contracting. These smart city projects are a few examples of the kinds of contracts agencies have recently put out to bid.
Smart Sensors – City of Los Angeles, CA
Los Angeles was recently accepting bids and proposals for a package of scientific and instrumental equipment, including smart sensor technology.
Fiber Installation – City of Tucson, AZ
Tucson’s Department of Public Works is accepting bids from prime contractors for a federally-funded RTDN fiber installation project.
Parking Solution Pilot Project – City of Westerville, OH
Westerville is accepting proposals from private sector solution providers for the implementation of a “smart parking” pilot project for areas in the city’s Uptown District.
Electrical Maintenance – City of Hopewell, VA
Hopewell has a requirement for several qualified vendors to provide power supply maintenance, electrical maintenance and electrical-related repair services.
Future Leads in Budgets and Spending Plans
Companies interested in selling smart products or services can get the most foresight by finding potential projects within agency budgets and capital spending plans. Access Control System Upgrade – City of Houston, TX
Houston is planning on spending $1.9M through 2023 to replace an outdated access control system and server with a new, more reliable and better-integrated system.
Streetscape Improvements – City of Lexington, MA
Lexington is including $3.2M in its recommended budget and financing plan for 2021-22 for landscape and paving work specifically associated with streetscape improvements.
Bike Share Program – Town of Fishers, IN
The town of Fishers is including between $360K and $510K in its budget between 2019 and 2022 for ongoing funding of the town’s bike share program.
