The Navi Mumbai Municipal commissioner (NMMC) directed city ward officers to conduct a self-check for cleanliness. In a review meeting for implementing Swachh Survekshan, the nodal officers had been appointed by the NMMC to do a survey of each ward before a team from Delhi arrived for the survey.

In general, only nodal officers are assigned, however, this time commissioner Abhijit Bangar made it a two-tier check. In addition, the commissioner also asked authorities for issuing an order to all shops in Navi Mumbai to arrange a dustbin outside their shops for the customers to avoid littering footpaths and roads.

Commissioner Abhijit Bangar said the city of Navi Mumbai has great potential for cleanliness, everyone needs to be more vigilant and negligence on the part of hygiene standards should be avoided.

The officers are asked to reach out to the citizens since there are shortcomings in the segregation of waste even though it is compulsory for the citizens to segregate wet, dry, and hazardous household waste in their homes before disposing of it separately in the municipal waste trucks.

Officers are also directed to ensure that the wet waste processing projects, being implemented according to the solid waste management regulations, are executed regularly in the housing societies and institutions generating large-scale waste.

Additionally, special attention is required by the waste that is being dumped by citizens in the road dividers.
