Jharkhand has become the first state in the country to receive Atal Renewal and Urban Transformation Mission (AMRUT) 2.0 approval for all of its schemes. The state urban development department received all of its project approvals from the central government for AMRUT 2.0 thanks to Chief Minister Hemant Soren's guidance.
Jharkhand's AMRUT 2.0 goals include providing free drinking water to every household in the urban area, wastewater management in the state's seven major cities, water source rejuvenation in all bodies, and greenery development by 2025-26. Simdega, Lohardaga, Gumla, Jamtara, Barharwa, Barkisariya, Bachra, Chhatarpur, Hariharganj, Vanshidhar, Mahagama, Domchanch, Kapali, and Vishrampur have joined the municipal bodies that will benefit from AMRUT 2.0.
The center has approved 100% of the Jharkhand government's schemes for the recently launched Atal Renewal and Urban Transformation Mission (AMRUT) 2.0 to strengthen water supply and other urban resources in 500 cities across the country. In the first phase, a total of six states submitted proposals, with Jharkhand being the first to have its plans approved. The water supply system of 16 municipal bodies in the state will be improved if these schemes are approved. In addition, work in the area of wastewater management in seven Amrut cities will be accelerated.
A state-level high-powered steering committee has been formed under the guidance of Chief Minister Hemant Soren and the leadership of Chief Secretary Sukhdev Singh to select schemes to be sent by the state government for AMRUT 2.0.
A plan is in the works to provide free water in the form of tap water to 1,90,000 homes in the state's 16 municipal bodies. These programs will benefit more than 9,00,000 people. Innovative technologies such as Supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), geographic information system (GIS), and sensors will be used in the plans.
The state has received Rs 1,178 crore from the center as part of the AMRUT 2.0 contribution. The schemes for which approval was given in the first phase will cost a total of Rs 1,122 crore, with contributions from both the central and state governments.
