The City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters (‘the Council’) is located in Adelaide's inner eastern suburbs, adjacent to the Adelaide CBD. The City’s unique sense of place is shaped by its cultural diversity, strong community spirit, rich heritage and cosmopolitan lifestyle. The Council area has a reputation as one of Adelaide’s most desirable places to live, work, study and visit.

The City’s population is about 37,000 people across 15 square kilometres.  In recent years, the community has grown with an influx of new citizens from China, Malaysia, India and South Korea, many of whom are students.

With distinct tree-lined streets, contemporary community facilities, the River Torrens Linear Park and vibrant retail and commercial precincts including The Parade, Norwood, the City embraces its natural beauty and environment.  The Council also prides itself on focussing on community wellbeing through four key outcome areas including:

  • Social Equity
  • Cultural Vitality
  • Economic Prosperity
  • Environmental Sustainability

The Council endorsed a Smart City Plan in December 2020, including the following Vision Statement:

“The City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters will use high-value smart technology and innovation to enhance the sustainability, vibrancy and liveability of the City.”

The Council’s Smart City Plan sets out some guiding principles and strategic themes and objectives that underpin a range of priority action areas, which seek to advance the community’s digital literacy and democratic platforms and improve the effectiveness of the Council’s programs and services with the use of technology.
