Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) will install 10,000 CCTV cameras to protect the properties and deter people from intruding on their unutilised plots, around the city at several plots and establishments to monitor them.

With the help of the cameras, the corporation will aim to strengthen the security of their land properties and create digital fencing for surveillance purposes. The project will be executed by an auxiliary unit of the AMC- the Smart City Ahmedabad Development Limited (SCADL).

According to a report, the exercise will be divided into two phases. Phase I involves the preparation of a detailed survey of all the properties owned by AMC and tenders that have been floated. It will be followed by marking the logistical and administrative adjustments for the installation of closed-circuit cameras.

An AMC official said that after that is complete they will begin to install the cameras and create a Land Encroachment Monitoring System dashboard.

The CCTVs shall be backed by an Artificial Intelligence (AI) which is based on a real-time land encroachment monitoring system (LEMS) for alerting the zonal estate department through an integrated command centre if it senses any encroachment by a person, vehicle, or illegal construction.

Officials further said that the cameras will be geo-tagged to enable the officials to get the real-time status of the government properties.

Additionally, the dashboard will be accessible via Android and iOS phones along with the web version to ensure uninterrupted monitoring round the clock. Therefore, the concerned authority will be alerted quickly and be able to take swift action.
