Smart Cities Council is proud to welcome Goran Babušku as a Professional Member, joining a growing network of leaders driving the future of connected, sustainable cities.

Goran is a seasoned technology professional with deep expertise across Urban Technologies, Smart Cities, IoT, IT infrastructure, telecommunications, and customer engagement. With over a decade of experience in the public sector, he combines hands-on technical delivery with a strategic mindset focused on building smarter, more resilient communities.

“We, technology practitioners, have the social responsibility to bridge the gap between people and emerging technologies,” notes Goran, the Smart City IoT Delivery Lead at the City of Stonnington, where he leads the development and implementation of smart infrastructure projects that integrate people, data, and technology to solve real-world urban challenges. From digital equity to sustainable mobility, his work is centred on improving operational efficiency and enhancing quality of life.

In this role, Goran has established a robust IoT function and strategic framework, guiding his organization through capability building, roadmap development, and cross-functional collaboration. His ability to engage both internal teams and external stakeholders has made him a key driver of smart city transformation in one of Melbourne’s most dynamic councils.

With a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Telecommunications from the University of St Kiril and Metodij in Macedonia, Goran brings a strong academic foundation to his professional leadership. Prior to his current role, he coordinated the IT Infrastructure and Support Services within the City of Stonnington’s Business Systems and Technology Department - building trust, optimizing performance, and delivering services that align with evolving community needs.

What sets Goran apart is his human-first approach to technology. While passionate about systems, sensors, and data, his focus remains squarely on people - on how connected technology can enable more inclusive, accessible, and liveable cities.

Through his involvement with the Smart Cities Council, specifically the Smart Built Environment task force, Goran aims to broaden collaboration, contribute to regional dialogue, and continue learning from fellow professionals who share a vision for data-driven, people-powered urban transformation.
