Following the decision to defer Smart Cities Week 2026, Wellington City Council, in partnership with the Smart Cities Council, will host a focused Smart Cities Working Session to maintain momentum on key sector priorities.
This session is designed specifically for council professionals working across digital, data, transport, resilience, infrastructure, innovation, planning and service delivery — particularly those already planning to be in Wellington during this time.
Wellington City Council
Wednesday 6 May

What to expect
This session will focus on one of the most practical elements of the original programme: how councils can work together more effectively to deliver smart city outcomes.
A key part of the discussion will be the proposed New Zealand Smart Collaboration Hub — and how it can support councils through shared tools, resources, and approaches.
The session will cover:
- Current council challenges
Including capacity constraints, duplication, funding pressures and shifting priorities - The Collaboration Hub
What it should deliver, how it should work, and what councils need to trust and use it - Priority areas for collaboration
Such as transport data, infrastructure decision-making, resilience, public realm, procurement and digital twins - Collaboration models and partnerships
Including how councils, government and partners can work more effectively together - Next steps
Agreeing practical actions, potential pilots and early contributors
Why attend
This is a chance to be part of a focused, outcomes-driven discussion with peers across the sector. The goal is to leave with a clear set of next steps, shared priorities, and practical ways to collaborate.
Spots are limited to ensure a high-value working session.
