Wellington, New Zealand | 5–8 May 2026
The Smart Cities Council (SCC) has announced Smart Cities Week NZ 2026, a focused programme bringing together local government, infrastructure leaders, and industry partners to address the practical challenges of delivering smarter, more resilient communities across New Zealand.
Taking place in Wellington from 5–8 May, the event is designed as a working, outcome-driven programme—supporting real-world implementation, collaboration, and capability-building.
A Focus on Delivery
Smart Cities Week NZ 2026 centres on a key challenge facing councils and their partners:
how to deliver effectively in a complex, resource-constrained environment.
The programme will focus on:
- improving delivery of smart city initiatives
- reducing duplication and reusing proven approaches
- strengthening coordination across councils, agencies, and partners
- prioritising investment and scaling impact
Participants will engage in practical sessions and working discussions, focused on identifying challenges, sharing lessons, and defining next steps.
Bringing Together the Right People
The event will convene:
- local government leaders across digital, infrastructure, and resilience
- delivery and infrastructure partners
- technology providers and innovators
- policymakers and ecosystem stakeholders
This cross-sector approach ensures discussions are grounded in real delivery environments.
Strengthening Collaboration and Capability
A core component of the programme focuses on improving collaboration across the sector, including identifying where shared approaches, tools, and coordination can improve delivery outcomes.
The sessions are designed to test and validate priorities, helping inform future initiatives and areas for collective action.
Additional Opportunity: NZ Digital Twin 2026
Taking place during the same week, NZ Digital Twin 2026—delivered by Saifee Events and supported by Smart Cities Council—provides a complementary programme focused on digital twin capability and applications across infrastructure and city systems.
This is a separate event with its own registration, with discounted access available for Smart Cities Week NZ participants.
A Practical Platform for Progress
Smart Cities Week NZ 2026 is designed to deliver:
- clearer understanding of priority challenges
- practical approaches to improve delivery
- stronger cross-sector connections
- defined actions and next-step pathways
