Celebrating Collaboration, Innovation, and Human-Centred Urban Transformation
Miami, USA – October 2025:
The Smart Cities Council (SCC) was proud to partner with and be present at Smart City Expo Miami 2025, a dynamic two-day event that brought together more than 350 participants and speakers from 20+ countries under the theme “Re-imagining Urban Spaces.”
Hosted at Miami Dade College – Wolfson Campus, this year’s sold-out conference united global thought leaders, innovators, and city changemakers to explore how technology, governance, and community well-being intersect to create thriving, inclusive cities.
Inspiring Conversations on Health, Ethics and Innovation
Day 1 opened with an inspiring session by Dr. Melissa Grill-Petersen, who presented “HealthSpan – A New Metric for Success in Thriving Communities.” Her message encouraged city leaders to look beyond technology and GDP, and instead measure success through human vitality, longevity, and happiness.
Several SCC members also played influential roles throughout the event:
- Chris Lane from SmartAI Connect delivered a thought-provoking presentation on Governance, Ethics, and the Role of Responsibility.
“AI is complicated — it’s not as simple as just deploying. Without proper governance, every AI project becomes a business risk.”
- Catherine Caruana-McManus from Meshed joined Dr. Jonathan Reichental (CEO, Human Future, Silicon Valley) for the Masterclass “Everything You Wanted to Know About Crypto But Were Too Afraid to Ask.”
- Smart Talent AI contributed to key discussions on responsible innovation and the future of work in the AI era.
Their collective presence highlighted how SCC members continue to drive global conversations around governance, ethical intelligence, and digital transformation.
Building Global Connections
Representing SCC on the ground, Karen Norden (Global Events Lead) and Sunil Casuba (Advisory – Global Leaders) connected with city representatives, partners, and innovators to explore collaborative opportunities and share the Council’s mission of creating more liveable, connected, and human-centric cities.
