Education: AI Adoption, Assurance & Compliance

To build capability across government and industry, in Q4 2025 Smart Cities Academy is launching a new online, on demand course focused on AI adoption, assurance & compliance.

What this partnership delivers

Together, SCC and SmartAI will highlight how AI can make cities more liveable, workable, and sustainable—addressing challenges in infrastructure, energy, safety, mobility, and citizen engagement—through policy-aligned solutions, capability building, and repeatable delivery playbooks.

“The world has quickly awakened to the power of AI, but like all awesome technologies the potential for great good is balanced by the potential for great harm”, explained Corey Gray, Chair and president, SCC. “This risk is as much about bad actors as unexpected consequences. In order to harness the benefits, we need to mitigate the risks. At the same time, we need to revisit what we as the authors of AI want morally and ethically, and how it can deliver human-centric, sustainable benefits for all.”

Chris Lane, Founder and Managing Director of SmartAI added, “We are proud to collaborate with SCC to advance the responsible adoption of artificial intelligence in cities and communities worldwide. By combining our expertise in AI assurance, governance, and compliance with the Council’s global network, we are able to help governments and industry unlock the benefits of AI while safeguarding transparency, ethics, and community trust. This partnership will be on display at key North American events in October and further strengthened through the Smart Cities Academy’s new AI micro-credential, equipping leaders with the knowledge and tools to adopt AI with confidence.”
