The U.K.-based Technology Strategy Board seeks to stimulate technology-enabled innovation in areas that offer the greatest scope for boosting U.K. growth and productivity. It promotes, support and invests in technology research, development and commercialization. The board also advises government on how to remove barriers to innovation and accelerate the exploitation of new technologies. With its Future Cities program — a so-called Catapult centre announced in March 2012 — the board aims to use technology and innovation to improve services and quality of life in cities, and tap a market opportunity for integrated city systems estimated at £200 billion a year by 2030.
