Soon, Thiruvananthapuram to introduce exclusive smart card for residents

A smart card exclusively for the residents of Thiruvananthapuram city will be released within 2 months. The card, which has been named ‘My smart TVM’, can be used to avail government sector services in the initial phase and later for services of private institutions as well.

The card is part of the Smart City project. Tender has been invited from banks to prepare the smart card. The final date for submitting the tender is the 4th of February. The bank that wins the tender will handle the money transaction and other things related to the card.

The idea behind the card is to bring together all services in the capital city under one roof. The card can be used for the payment of parking tickets, corporation services, and even KSRTC bus tickets. The smart card will be linked to mobile wallets, debit cards, and credit cards.

In the initial stage, 50,000 cards will be issued. It will be distributed free of cost to those residing in the city, more cards will be issued as per demand eventually. e-rickshaws and electric charging point facilities will be introduced in the city as part of the Smart City project.

25 recharging machinery will be set up in the city at the initial stage itself. The smart card will also be linked to the Integrated Command Control Centre and Traffic Safety Command Control Centre, which will also be established as part of the Smart City project. These centers will be used to control traffic in the city using thousands of cameras that have been installed. A 24-hour help desk will also be opened for the smart card.
