Rs 192 cr alloted for 96 Smart Cities

The Union Urban Development Ministry on Thursday approved allotment of Rs 192 crore under the Smart City Mission for 96 off the 98 selected cities. Each of the cities received Rs 2 crore for preparing Smart City plan.

"Rs 2 crore provided for each city is meant for preparation of city level Smart City Plans with the assistance of technical and hand holding agencies," said a senior UD Ministry official.

Of the remaning two cities, i.e. funds for Delhi and Chandigarh will be sanctioned soon by the Home Ministry, the officail said.

The city level plans are to be submitted to the Urban Development Ministry in the next three months for evaluation. Following which, the Centre will  selecting the top 20, based on merit of the plan, for extending financial support during the current financial year.

Sanction letters  were issued to representatives of 40-odd Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) who attended the Regional Workshop in New Delhi today.
