The Puducherry Public Works Department (PWD) has decided to form a separate body of consultants or architects drawn from various walks of life to formalise proposals and prepare Detailed Project Reports (DPR) to speed up the implementation of various infrastructure and civil work projects.
The utility decided to form the body with a group of experts, including civil or structural engineers and design consultants, so that the department would have an arm to prepare the ground for minor and major infrastructure projects across the UT's four regions.
According to the official, the selection process has already begun, and the department intends to form the group by the end of February or early March.
The official said that shortlisting applications have already been requested from interested parties. Even companies with a history of producing project reports are welcome to participate. It will undoubtedly aid in the faster implementation of development work as well as the better utilisation of staff for routine tasks.
Several infrastructure projects are in the works, including the construction of check dams, bridges in rural areas, irrigation works, and drinking water projects.
Puducherry is divided into four regions: Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe, and Yanam, all of which are under the control of the Chief Engineer, Public Works Department (PWD), Puducherry. In the Yanam region, the PWD is involved in infrastructure development, planning, construction, and maintenance of buildings, roads, bridges, irrigation, flood control, and water supply. This department is in charge of maintaining essential public services in the Yanam region, such as water supply.
