The Smart Cities Council announced earlier this year that Brisbane, Queensland Australia is one of three (3) global Smart Cities Readiness Challenge winners from its 2020 application process. The other two Readiness Challenge winners are Orange County, Florida, USA and Nashville, Tennessee, USA.
Brisbane City Council and Smart Cities Council Australia New Zealand (SCCANZ) have committed in 2021 to support additional data leadership efforts that deliver data inspired outcomes for the City’s residents and businesses, as well as their peer cities throughout Australia and New Zealand.
Brisbane City Council will lead a 'City Data Leadership' Cohort throughout 2021. This will involve multiple engagement sessions, with internal city stakeholders and with peer cities, industry and academia. The overall goal of this ‘City Data Leadership’ Cohort is to help Brisbane and other cities accelerate the launch of targeted data solutions and approaches to create greater value for their communities. This helps achieve the Smart Cities Council's vision of 'Cities Helping Cities'.
One of the first engagements being mobilised relates to city vibrancy, economic development and the role of people counting. As such, SCCANZ and Brisbane City Council are co-hosting a knowledge exchange roundtable on Wednesday June 30 for local Council's across Australia and New Zealand to share their experiences on the role of people counting and its role in catalysing economic development opportunities, enhancing place outcomes and informing post-COVID city planning and design.
This initial local government-only roundtable will be followed by engagements with the private sector and academia.
