Schneider Electric technology will automate new Las Vegas showplace
Council Lead Partner Schneider Electric has signed a multi-year agreement to become the first "founding partner" of the new Las Vegas Arena currently under construction and owned by Las Vegas Arena Co. partners AEG and MGM Resorts International. Schneider will design, install and operate numerous technology-based systems throughout the venue. The ‘intelligent design’ provided by Schneider's SmartStruxure™ solution will give arena systems the ability to monitor the status of components and environmental parameters to ensure correct functionality during all modes of operation. This will allow the venue to be one of the world’s most automated and energy efficient sporting and concert venues with anytime, anywhere access to collective information throughout the facility.

Itron will help North Miami Beach modernize its water infrastructure
The North Miami Beach water utility, which serves 170,000 water customers in Northern Miami-Dade County, selected Council Lead Partner Itron to help modernize its water distribution system and recover lost water. The utility will use Itron’s advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), leak detection solution and cloud-based analytics to more effectively manage the delivery of water resources, reduce non-revenue water and conserve resources. "As water infrastructure ages and demand for water increases, the need for technology to help better manage resources becomes increasingly important," said Paula Billingham, vice president of sales, marketing and delivery for Water North America at Itron. "Utilities like North Miami Beach are leading the way to a more resourceful world."

Mercedes to unveil update of limo popular with pols
Daimler is expected to unveil a new version of its Mercedes-Benz Pullman at the Geneva auto show in March. That's the classy six-seater stretch limo that, as Reuters puts it, has in the past been popular with plutocrats, dictators and politicians. But Council Lead Partner Mercedes-Benz is also expected to show a plug-in hybrid version of its popular C-Class sedan that allows for zero-emission driving in city traffic.

Veolia partners to close the loop on agricultural waste
Veolia and FNSEA, an organization of French agricultural unions, are teaming up to launch a series of pilot projects designed to reduce the environmental impact of agriculture. Veolia, a Council Associate Partner, says the partnership aims to create a circular economy, where waste from one stage serves as fuel for the next. In particular, they plan to help recharge the water table by using alternative sources of water, such as rainwater and recycled wastewater, for irrigation and other agricultural needs. Methanization is another key focus; the partners are looking for ways to turn agricultural waste into energy.
