Electronic components maker selects Allied Telesis video surveillance system
TDK Thailand Company, a major electronic components manufacturer, has chosen a video surveillance solution from Council Lead Partner Allied Telesis. The system will be used to protect and monitor a new TDK production facility. Specifically, the system will deter or detect intruders, prevent theft of waste materials, provide employee security and monitor production line operations to prevent problems.
CH2M wins prestigious award for project management
Council Lead Partner CH2M was honored with the Willis Chipman Award for its project management work on Toronto, Canada's Metrolinx Union Pearson Express airport rail link. The multimodal transportation hub serves Greater Ontario and beyond, and now provides an additional connection between the city and Canada's busiest airport. Traffic congestion on highways leading to the airport has been growing steadily and the city has projected that it will double by 2031, which led to the decision to build the rail line.
Intel enhances its presence in IoT and driverless cars with new acquisition
Council Associate Partner Intel, already involved in the self-driving cars market with its infotainment and navigation systems, will acquire startup Itseez, noted for its Computer Vision algorithms. Intel says the acquisition will become a "key ingredient" in its Internet of Things group, and believes the acquisition will help it become increasingly successful in the automotive and video market segments. Intel provides end-to-end IoT solutions addressing devices, wired and wireless networks and the cloud and expects the acquisition will enable it to move more quickly.
Enel commissions Chile's largest solar plant
Enel Green Power, a subsidiary of Council Associate Partner Enel, has commissioned the largest solar plant in Chile. The 160 MW plant can generate as much as 400 GWh of electricity per year, sufficient to provide power for nearly 200,000 homes. The power generated at the Maria Elena plant will be sent to the country's Northern Region Transmission Network. Enel has built and commissioned several solar, wind and hydropower generating plants in Latin America and plans to commission a larger plant in Brazil.
Ooredoo subsidiary plans investment boost in data services markets
Council Lead Partner Ooredoo subsidiary Indosat Ooredoo, Indonesia's second largest telecommunications provider, plans to invest about $511 milliion in 2016 to enhances its standing in the data services market. The company is making the investment to improve its network speed and capacity. Most of it will be used to expand its 4G network which now provides coverage in 27 cities — and expand its fiber optic services coverage.
