Nagpur to appoint PWC for monetisation of Smart City tech components

Nagpur civic body's special purpose vehicles (SPVs), Nagpur Smart and Sustainable City Development Corporation Limited (NSSCDCL) have decided to appoint PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PWC) as a Project Management Consultant (PMC) to monetise information and communications technology (ICT) components installed under Safe and Smart City Project worth Rs 520 crore in Nagpur.

It was established for executing the Smart City Project. NSSCDCL has also decided to develop 13 electric vehicles (EV) charging stations and procure 15 electric midi city buses.

CEO of NSSCDCL, Buveneswari S, told the media that it aims to generate revenue to operate and maintain the ICT components after completing the 5-year contract with Larsen and Toubro (L&T).

She said that PMC had been given a deadline of six months to come up with various projects and will be paid in a phased manner on a performance basis.

NSSCDCL had laid optical fibre cable in Nagpur across 1,200 km. Over 3,700 CCTVs have been connected with cable, developed on the top floor of the NMC head office and will be accessible to the Command and Control Centre. It also established WiFi hotspots at various locations, Smart Parking on Central Bazaar road, etc. It has already planned to start high-speed internet and television services for cable operators and houses.

Earlier, Maha IT had entered into an agreement with L&T for executing the Safe and Smart City Project. The contract includes operation and maintenance (O&M) by L&T for five years. NSSCDCL and NMC will be responsible for the O&M of all ICT components from February 2024.

The Board approved various work orders for private agencies. The centre selected the city under Smart City Mission back in September 2016 to transform mouza Pardi, Punapur, Bharatwada and Bhandewadi into Smart City at Rs 3,577.77 crore. The central, state government and National Institutes of Technology (NIT) had approved Rs 1,000 crore. The centre had set a deadline to issue work orders of Rs 1,000 crore by 31 March 31 to complete the work by June 2023.
