Enterprise Ireland is partnering with the Smart Cities Council to accelerate Irish smart city progress. The Smart Cities Council is inviting North American cities to nominate projects from which Enterprise Ireland will select cities with bold projects that improve their livability, workability, and sustainability. City project teams will be invited to share knowledge with Ireland’s tech sector and cities. The invitation will be open September 17 to October 21, 2019.

Participating cities will input project information into the Council’s Smart Cities Activator online planning platform, from which Enterprise Ireland will select cities with bold projects that improve their livability, workability, and sustainability. There is particular interest in public safety, communication and energy projects. City project teams will be invited to share knowledge with Ireland’s tech sector and cities.

Enterprise Ireland is hosting a smart city conference in Dublin on December 2/3, 2019 with cities from around the globe in attendance. “We are inviting North America’s top smart cities to share their lessons learned,” explains Ei’s Sean McKeown, Project lead Smart Cities at Enterprise Ireland “and to meet Irish technology companies that can help them with their next projects.”

More Information

Enterprise Ireland works closely with numerous Irish technology companies to promote the strength and capabilities of the IoT sector in Ireland, including support towards the development of innovative IoT platforms.  Irish companies have achieved much success in various markets worldwide, resulting in Ireland being widely recognized as a leading hub for IoT and Smart City technology innovations.

Cities in Ireland have partnered with global players such as Softbank, Japan who signed a Smart City/IoT partnership project with Dublin City in 2018.  This was SoftBank’s first European IoT/ Smart City outreach project. The project involves Softbank’s close collaboration with Dublin in driving its unique smart city testbed, supported by a cluster of local technology companies.

Smart Cities Council’s CEO Philip Bane said “We have worked with cities around the world and find the Irish smart cities sector to be quite advanced. We already have a considerable amount of data about smart city projects in North America and we will invite cities to update their plans. Those cities that are most qualified will be invited to attend the Dublin Smart City Conference and enjoy Ireland during Christmas season.

Smart Cities Activator is an online planning platform that is free to qualified cities. It allows those cities to use expert, pre-programmed templates to engage with stakeholders, to build action plans, and to share best practices with other cities working on similar projects. Free Activator workshops will be part of the Dublin conference.
