Submitted by scc staff on September 9, 2015

The Smart Cities Council is pleased to introduce the Smart Cities Readiness Workshop program.Developed specifically for government officials and technology engineers, the workshops promote an interactive learning environment to help participants assess their city's readiness to innovate. Presented by leading smart cities practitioners, the workshops showcase lessons learned from the world's most advanced smart city projects.

Offered worldwide, the workshops are structured around the Council's Smart Cities Readiness Guide, a globally acclaimed framework for a smart city.  The Guide provides a conceptual roadmap to address city infrastructure growth strategies, focusing on universal principles that unite key areas such as energy, transportation, water and public safety. The workshops provide a proven, foundational framework for understanding and pursuing a state-of-the-art smart city.  Participants will learn how to:

  • Understand 27 foundational principles of a smart city
  • Apply advice and guidance gleaned from more than six dozen leading universities, national labs, standards bodies, industry associations and other independent experts
  • Map technology capabilities to the goals of their city
  • Create a cost/benefit analysis
  • Set priorities for action

Although the workshops focus on technology, the instructors will present a holistic approach to smart city development. Topics include organization, governance, citizen engagement, infrastructure, energy, finance and roadmapping, among others.Instructors are highly qualified, senior experts from the Council's partner companies and advisors. Workshops will be strictly vendor neutral, stressing open standards and best practices that apply regardless of the technology brands eventually used. The Smart Cities Readiness Workshops are a unique opportunity to learn how to make faster, better decisions for constructing a smart city roadmap and procuring the necessary technologies.
