Gannett Fleming has joined the Smart Cities Council, the world’s largest smart cities network. As a Lead Partner, Gannett Fleming will help educate cities on the benefits of implementing smart technology to address challenges in new ways that improve livability, workability, and sustainability.

“Underlying all that we do is our vision to improve and sustain our communities,” said Robert M. Scaer, PE, Gannett Fleming’s chairman of the board and chief executive officer. “Through innovative thinking and advanced technology, we provide efficient infrastructure solutions that achieve our clients’ goals and enhance quality of life. Our role in the Smart Cities Council is a natural fit for our work.”

Gannett Fleming brings over 100 years of experience providing progressive solutions for transportation, water, power, earth sciences, facilities, construction services and information technology. Gannett Fleming offers many solutions that support smart city objectives, including a suite of web-based GIS applications developed by Gannett Fleming’s GeoDecisions Business Line; advanced transportation technologies that can decrease congestion and promote traveler safety; and dashboard technology that enables dam owners to predict catastrophic flooding and make decisions that help save lives and property.

"As advisors to the world's cities, we are so pleased to welcome a company of Gannett Fleming's stature," said Smart Cities Council Chairman Jesse Berst. "They bring valuable design thinking, world-class engineering expertise, and an award-winning corporate commitment to sustainability. They are an ideal partner in our work to make cities everywhere more livable, workable and sustainable."

Gannett Fleming will also support ongoing outreach through Readiness Workshops, where Smart Cities Council experts, members, and advisors will assist in building or enhancing a smart city roadmap. The Smart Cities Council Readiness Challenge Grants program is designed to help American cities apply smart technologies to advance innovation, inclusion, and investment in their cities.
