The East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) has mandated the disposal of construction and demolition (C&D) wastes of construction or renovation buildings only at the proposed waste processing plant.
Shyam Sunder Aggarwal, EDMC Mayor, told the media that previously, 68 designated points were earmarked in Delhi for disposing of C&D waste.
According to the new order, the owners or builders of the construction or renovation sites will have to dispose of the C&D waste only at the Shastri Park C&D waste processing plant. He added that the builders or owners would have to ferry the waste to the waste processing plant at their own cost.
The C&D waste plant is located on the main ramps so the EDMC trucks can carry them for disposal. EDMC told the media that it was decided to curb pollution levels.
The Municipal Commissioner of EDMC has issued an order saying that the construction and demolition waste from the building sites will have to be disposed of at Shastri Park C&D waste processing plant only. Violation of this order will lead to strict action, and the building plan may also get cancelled.
Dust from these construction sites is one of the major causes of air pollution.
Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has announced 10 points of winter action plan to control air pollution by focusing on dust control using Pusa bio-decomposer, installing smog towers and checking waste burning and vehicular emissions.
He added that air pollution is under control in Delhi but will soon increase due to the stubble burning in the neighbouring states during winters.
