MUMBAI: CIDCO, the City and Industrial Development Corporation, will open financial bids for pre-development work of the proposed Navi Mumbai International Airport in the next 15 days, said a top government official.

Following this, the nodal agency for the Navi Mumbai International airport will start pre-development work including levelling of ground, flattening or cutting down hills-hillocks and clearing green patches by March end.

"In the next one month, we will give out request for proposals to three entities shortlisted for the next round of bidding. We expect the bidders to revert in four-five months after that," said Sanjay Bhatia, managing director, CIDCO. Bhatia was speaking on the sidelines of 3rd Smart Cities Summit here.

GMR, Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) and Mia Infrastructure are currently in the fray for the project following the recent disqualification of Hiranandani Group and Zurich Airports alliance.

MIAL is a subsidiary of GVK, while Mia Infrastructure is a joint venture between Tata Realty & Infrastructure Ltd (TRIL) and French company Vinci Concessions.

CIDCO, the nodal agency for the Navi Mumbai International airport is waiting for go ahead from the project monitoring and implementation committee (PMIC)—an agency formed by the civil aviation ministry for faster implementation of projects--and the state government cabinet.

CIDCO holds 26% of the special purpose vehicle. It had commenced the first stage of the two stage bidding process by issuing RFQ on February 5 last year.

The Rs 14,573-crore project is seen as a crucial alternate to the congested airport in the city. The government had initially approved setting up the airport in 2007, but ran into several environmental and land acquisition problems.

The airport will span an area of 2,867 acres with a terminal building of 5,23,000 square meters and two runways.
