The work for setting up an automatic machine for the construction and demolition (C&D) waste plant is ongoing in Chandigarh. The private contractor has already installed the shed, and the work on installing the machine will begin soon. According to the officials, the engineering department is monitoring the work progress to ensure work completion within the deadline.

The Union Territory (UT) administration is also watching the work progress and suggesting the required directions for the project.

The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has received and cleared public objections for the policy, later sent to the Chandigarh administration for final notification. The new C&D Waste policy will be notified by the Punjab governor and UT administrator in consultation with the senior officials of the Chandigarh administration.

Earlier, the municipal corporation received public objections regarding the C&D waste policy. They were scrutinised based on merit and held discussions regarding the same. The policy received some changes based on two public objections before sending it to the UT administration.

In the automatic C&D waste plant, the machine would produce recycled aggregates, including stones, gravel and debris to make concrete, among others, after processing the raw materials. The recycled concrete is used for making tiles, curb channels and paver blocks. Another product, silt, will be used for filling jobs on construction sites.
